Support Our Community During #GivingTuesday
On this #GivingTuesday, we are highlighting three of our community partners and the amazing work they are doing connecting youth to the outdoors. Please consider sharing your generosity and supporting them today.
WTA believes that everyone deserves to have opportunities to recreate outdoors and to have safe, welcoming and inclusive experiences on trail. While some of that work happens as trail maintenance in neighborhoods and the backcountry, we also believe that it is essential to support the next generation in accessing the outdoors. In addition to the countless benefits of spending time outside, the youth of today will be the future leaders who will steward the outdoors, so it is crucial we invest in them now.
For this #GivingTuesday 2022, we are highlighting three of our community partners. In addition to all of the amazing work these organizations do for their communities, they also focus on nurturing a connection between their youth and the outdoors. Please consider sharing your generosity with these organizations on #GivingTuesday.
North Seattle Family Resource Center
Children’s Home Society of Washington (CHSW) is one of the state’s largest nonprofit family services organizations, with eight family resource centers statewide, including the North Seattle Family Resource Center. Their mission is to develop healthy children, create strong families and advocate for children. They believe there is no right way to be a family, but there is a right way to support one. Wherever a family’s journey leads, CHSW is there to support them.
Whether families need one-time assistance with diapers or food, or ongoing assistance from programs like early learning or family support services, CHSW’s network of support connects families with the resources that will best help them now and in the future. They offer services such as parenting classes, life skills education, assistance with public benefits applications and so much more. The North Seattle Family Resource Center also hosts family camping trips, which WTA has helped support since 2015.

Communities for a Healthy Bay
For 30 years, Communities for a Healthy Bay (CHB) has brought people together to achieve a clean and healthy Commencement Bay that benefits our community and the surrounding ecosystem that calls Puget Sound home. Their work is driven by a passion for the natural environment and our community; by a steadfast commitment to good science, strategic action and organizational excellence; and by a conviction that together we can accomplish more.
As part of their work, CHB mobilize others to advocate for the protection of our waterways. They patrol the waters to keep an eye out for pollutants, advocate for the reduction of fossil fuel development in the Tacoma Tideflats and organize environmental justice camps for girls and LGBTQ+ youth ages 11-17.

Rainier Prep is a fifth through eighth grade public charter middle school focused on preparing students to excel at four-year colleges and lead their communities. They serve over 350 students from the SeaTac, White Center and Burien area — a majority of whom identify as BIPOC or limited-income. Although a large portion of students enter Rainier Prep behind the expected reading and math skills for their grade level, every graduate of Rainier Prep is fully prepared for success and excellence in Seattle’s high schools.
Rainier Prep is seeking to make introductory and intermediate level outdoors experiences available to their students by starting a new curricular enrichment and community partnership program which will invite students and their guardians to build upon Rainier Prep's science and physical education curriculum. The goal of the program is to enhance students' lives and connect them with Washington’s natural and cultural heritage through the outdoor experiences.

WTA is proud to support our partners on their youth outdoor adventures. We look forward to continuing our current and future partnerships through our Outdoor Leadership Training program.
