Where We Hiked: Dec. 13 - 19
With snow returning to the mountains and a few days of sun, WTA's Trip Reporters had a good time on some interesting trails last week.
Last week we saw the rain returning to snow in the mountains, a big dump of the white stuff in Eastern Washington and even a couple of crystal clear days.
Did you go hiking, skiing or snowshoeing? Well, at least some of you did!
"Snow Cat" enjoyed the sun on the Greg Ball Trail at Wallace Falls State Park on Sunday, calling it an "antidote to symptoms of Seasonal Hiking Withdrawal."
"Mytho-Man went up White Pass this weekend to Tieton Pond. He and his companions "saw a group of 4 or 5 elk on the way up, but the only people we saw was one other couple when we were almost back to the car. A great time was had by all."
Other folks chose to hike in some areas that are threatened with reduced recreational access, new fees or closures due to the serious budget deficit the state is facing.
"Dr Gui" explored some little known DNR land in Harry Osborne State Forest off of Highway 20. The Les Hilde Trail System has over "50 miles of trails at low altitude with lovely views."
Janice Van Cleve headed to Squak Mountain State Park outside of Issaquah. This is one of the state parks slated for closure due to budget cuts. "It is very easy access and full of lovely woods, rustic trails, and interesting remains," she wrote.
