We Stand in Solidarity
A statement from WTA.
We are mourning the loss of George Floyd and his senseless killing at the hands of a police officer, as well as the loss of Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery. These tragedies continue the unacceptable history of racial violence against Black, Indigenous and people of color in America.
We stand in solidarity with Black Lives Matter, Black Americans and people of color, and join the nationwide outcry for racial justice. Locally and nationally, we urgently need to end the systemic racism that pervades our land. We lift up those working to undo the historic inequity and institutionalized racism experienced by the Black community. We see you. We hear you. We are with you.
WTA is committed to trails for everyone, forever and that cannot happen without all of us coming together to make this nation a more just, equitable and safe place for everyone, everywhere. As a largely white-led organization, we know that it is our work to dismantle racism in order to achieve justice for all communities. We reaffirm our commitment to becoming an equitable organization and speaking up for equity and racial justice in the outdoors, as well as working with our community and partners to better understand the deep and enduring impacts of racism and privilege and the actions that WTA can take to overcome them. We have much work to do.
