Vote YES on Seattle Parks for All by Aug. 5
On Aug. 5, Seattle residents will have the opportunity to Vote YES for Parks and support Seattle Proposition 1 to create a permanent, dedicated funding to Seattle’s parks and community centers. WTA has joined a long list of supporters in endorsing Proposition 1.
A child’s first hike might take place on one of Seattle’s many city park trails like the Washington Park Arboretum or Discovery Park. Perhaps that child will gain a lifelong appreciation for trails and the outdoors, spawned by a short walk within some of the greatest parks in the country—all within Seattle city limits.
On Aug. 5, Seattle residents will have the opportunity to Vote YES for Parks and support Seattle Proposition 1. Prop 1 creates a permanent, dedicated funding to Seattle’s parks and community centers. Right now there’s a $267 million (and growing) major maintenance backlog for our parks and some community centers can only afford to stay open 25 hours a week.
Washington Trails Association has joined a long list of supporters in endorsing Proposition 1. Funding our parks is essential in ensuring that Seattle’s parks and open spaces will thrive in the future. Right now parks must compete with critical city services like police, fire and human service for funding. By creating a dedicated funding source, parks and city services will get the funds they need to operate—it’s a win-win all around.
