Spring Hikes on KUOW
Looking for some spring hikes?
Craig Romano, author of the Mountaineers Book's new guide Day Hiking: Central Cascades was on KUOW-FM's Weekday today talking about spring hiking and snowshoeing--it's definitely worth a listen. Find the archived audio here (the segment on hiking is about halfway into the audio). You'll hear suggestions for hikes near Puget Sound, on the eastern crest of the Cascades, and much more. A big thanks to Craig for plugging WTA!
Craig also generously donated his writing and photography skills to help create WTA's Hiking the Entiat section of the new May/June 2009 issue of Washington Trails. Look for it in your mailbox soon (or become a member today so you won't miss another issue). We'll be talking more about this beautiful and threatened area on our website during the month of May.
Craig's guidebooks (he's also written Day Hiking: Olympic Peninsula and Day Hiking North Cascades) are well-written and meticulously researched--and one percent of the proceeds are donated to WTA. You should definitely have a look at them if you haven't before.
Looking for a good hike right now? I just hiked with Craig yesterday, on the Boulder River Trail,
which is in good shape. It's a lovely, relatively easy hike (about 3.0
miles round trip to the falls or about 9 miles round trip to trail's
end). A bit muddy, but there are some huge old-growth trees on this riverside walk.
