Spread the Word: Scholarships for Teens on Trail

Every teen should have the opportunity to experience the great outdoors, which is why WTA offers scholarships for teens 14-18 to participate in our Youth Volunteer Vacation trips, a week of camping and participation on a team-oriented trail crew.

At Washington Trails Association, we believe no teen should stay home this summer because he or she can’t afford to get outside. Every teen should have the opportunity to experience the great outdoors and create friendships with others who also enjoy the outdoors.

Thanks to donations from members and supporters, WTA is able to keep Youth Volunteer Vacation participation fees low and offer a limited number of scholarships.

Best summer ever: get outside and give back

[Youth Volunteer Vacations are] “Fabulous! My son is still friends with some of the kids he went out with. It was a wonderful opportunity for him to experience the outdoors for the first time without family.”  -- Parent of youth volunteer

Youth Volunteer Vacations are week-long camping and trail maintenance trips designed for teens age 14-18. Volunteers can earn up to 40 service hours on a youth vacation. Tents and sleeping pads are provided on frontcountry trips and delicious food is provided on all volunteer vacations. Teens with previous trail maintenance experience can apply for an advanced backcountry trip.

Spread the word: A WTA trip could make 2014 the best summer ever for a student interested in the outdoors who would enjoy a week of camping and participating on a team-oriented trail crew.

Scholarship applications are due April 14, 2014. Applicants are encouraged to apply early. If spaces still remain open after the deadline, applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Youth Vacation scholarships will be granted based on financial need and outdoor interest.

Registration begins on Monday, February 3 at 10am.
