Speak Up for Hiking Trails at Teanaway Open House

Hikers and other trail users can voice their opinions about the future of the Teanaway Community Forest at an upcoming public open house on Thursday, Dec. 4 from 5-8 p.m. at the Swauk Teanaway Grange, 1361 Ballard Rd. West, Cle Elum. (Map)

Staff from the Washington departments of Natural Resources (DNR) and Fish and Wildlife (DFW) will be on hand to provide an update on the development of the community forest’s management and take feedback from the public.

The agencies are currently seeking ideas about the future of the Teanaway Community Forest, including what type of recreational opportunities should be provided on the forest including hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, dirt biking, camping and snowshoeing.

Attend the open house and make your voice heard! Let DNR and DFW know you want designated hiking trails in the Teanaway Community Forest.

About the Teanaway Community Forest

Designated as Washington state’s first community forest, the 50,000-acre Teanaway Community Forest was purchased by the state from a private seller last fall and is a cornerstone of the Yakima Basin Integrated Plan. With the help of an advisory committee (WTA is a member), the departments of Natural Resources and Fish and Wildlife must develop a plan for managing the forest by June 30, 2015.

Currently there are no designated trails in the TeanawayCommunity Forest. WTA is a strong advocate for a designated trail system for hikers and other recreationists.
