King follows in the footsteps of Dave Uberuaga, who left Mount Rainier to serve as superintendent of Grand Canyon National Park. Since Uberuaga departed on July 17th, King has been serving as the acting superintendent.

"Randy's charisma, leadership and park experience make him a triple threat and the natural choice for this selection," said Chris Lehnertz, regional director for the Pacific West Region. "Randy is extremely familiar with the park, its partners and staff and has demonstrated success in building partnerships and solving problems."

Washington Trails Association has had an active partnership with Mount Rainier National Park for several years now, especially with our work to rebuild the Glacier Basin trail. We're pleased by the selection of Randy King, who has supported WTA's volunteer efforts in the park. King was on hand last month to thank volunteers on the Glacier Basin project at a celebration on National Public Lands Day. We look forward to working with him in his new, official role with Mount Rainier National Park.
