We have 29 Volunteer Vacations scheduled for 2011. Sign ups begin Monday, February 7th at 10am. Veterans will tell you that you should be in front of your computer at that time to guarantee a spot on your desired trip. Last year, 100 slots filled in seven minutes.
The work this year runs the gamut - logging out trails in the Colonel Bob Wilderness, helping rebuild the Wonderland Trail by Mt Rainier, building puncheon in the shadow of Mt Adams, crafting new trail at Bean Creek Basin, and much more. Our agency partners are anxious to get WTA volunteers out on trail and to fix some damage that has been put off for years.
The schedule includes the usual favorites like Chelan Lakeshore, Sawtooth Wilderness and Lower Skokomish. But we have also added several great new locations like Gibraltar Mountain by Republic, High Divide at Mount Baker and Deep Lake by Cle Elum. All guaranteed to satisfy your adventurous spirit.
We start the season in early April at the Hoh rain forest where you stay in the bunkhouse, with a nice fire to warm you up after work, and finish the season at Holden Village and Cape Disappointment where you have hot showers and soft beds. In between, we have just about every kind camp and project you could want. Check it out, it could be the best schedule ever.
And while the Volunteer Vacation schedule tends to overshadow everything, today we are also previewing the Youth Volunteer Vacation and the Backcountry Response Team (BCRT) schedules for 2011. All of these schedules will be available for sign-up next Monday (Feb. 7th) at 10 am. And we'll be blogging about each of these amazing schedules later this week. Stay tuned!
