With snow falling in the North Cascades, SR20 will remain closed Friday through Sunday so crews can determine if avalanches pose a risk to drivers.

Edit: As of November 21, the North Cascades Highway is officially closed to car traffic for the season. The road will reopen in the spring when conditions allow and snow is cleared from the roadway.

North Cascades Highway (SR20) closes annually as snows deepen, and this weekend may be the first hint that winter is nearly here. WSDOT crews will close the pass from milepost 134 to 171 from Friday, Nov. 18 through Sunday, Nov. 20 to evaluate if avalanches pose a risk to drivers. If the pass remains unsafe, closures may extend. There are also upcoming road closures at Mount Rainier to be aware of if you plan on hiking in either of these areas.
