Trails are our pathway to nature, and we love them. So do thousands of other people, from city dwellers to families to avid hikers, who will take to Washington’s trails in celebration of the 19th annual National Trails Day on Saturday, June 4th.
National Trails Day, organized every year by the American Hiking Society, is the largest trail celebration in the U.S. and comprises 2,000 events across the country.
Each year, local groups like Washington Trails Association are a key part of this nation-wide celebration of trails. You can be a part of it, too, by venturing out on one of your local hiking trails on National Trails Day. The theme for this year’s program, Made with All Natural Ingredients, is an open invitation to all people to get outside and connect with the great outdoors.
National Trails Day is a special opportunity to celebrate together something that is important to all of us - our public lands. The great outdoors and the experiences they bring into our lives are there because we as citizens have protected our public lands, and because we volunteer to take care of them.
New to hiking? You can find a National Trails Day hike that fits what you’re looking for, from your desired elevation gain to waterfalls, over at our Hike Finder.
Washington Trails Association is hosting seven volunteer trail work parties to help out trails across the state this National Trails Day. No prior experience is necessary, just a desire to help out and have fun. All work parties begin at the trailhead at 8:30am and end at 3:30pm. Volunteers should bring their lunch and water, work gloves and wear sturdy shoes. Tools, hardhats and training provided.
WTA has even added a special work party this National Trails Day at Cougar Mountain just for families.
