Connect young people to parks and public lands
Outdoor experiences are a powerful tool for positive youth development, and hiking and camping trips can be a great way to meet your youth group's goals outside of the classroom or community center. Imagine your science class sampling the water quality of a mountain stream, or your program participants bonding through the shared challenge of cooking a camp dinner.
It might seem like an overwhelming prospect with all the planning and logistics involved in leading a trip, but what if you had experienced outdoor leaders to help you build your skills, guide you through the planning process, lend you free gear and help pay for transportation or other trip costs?
- WTA's free Gear Lending Library has modern outdoor gear to outfit youth groups and adult chaperones.
WTA will help you plan and outfit your trip
WTA's Outdoor Leadership Training program provides adult trip leaders with hiking and camping workshops, a gear lending library, mini-grants for trip costs, and assistance with the trip planning process. Plus, trip leaders join a supportive community of other adults helping youth connect with nature.
- Outdoor Leadership Training workshops are held in the field and participants get the opportunity to test their leadership skills, but no experience is necessary.
