Improved Road Opens Access to Lookout Mountain

Completed maintenance on Lookout Mountain Road has opened access to the incredible views of Lookout Mountain Trail once again.

The Okanogan-Wentatchee National Forest Service recently completed maintenance on Forest Road 4345-200 in the Twisp area. Referred to as Lookout Mountain Road locally, this access point allows hikers to take in the amazing views from this popular picnic destination.

“As the closest and most accessible hike from Twisp town limits, the Lookout Mountain trail provides a short and beautiful hike to a historic fire lookout with panoramic views of the valley below. Improved road conditions will mean that this local asset will once again be better accessed and enjoyed by all.” said Twisp Mayor Soo Ing-Moody.

The hike itself is 3 miles RT, with the lookout offering 360 degree views of the Cascades and Methow Valley. The shorter distance means this is a great hike for the whole family. The trail may be hot in the summer though, so be sure to pack in plenty of water for the hike up.

Please note that this trail is open only to non-motorized access, and keeping the area preserved relies on hikers to Leave No Trace.
