A huge thank you to everyone who donated to WTA during GiveBIG! Keep an eye out overhead for the Eta Aquarids meteor shower tonight. A bill was passed that will provide resources for better access to the outdoors. And, starting July 1, a few additional trailheads near Riverside State Park will require a Discover Pass.

It’s May 5. Here’s some news you may have missed while out on trail this week.

Big thanks for GiveBIG: During GiveBIG this week, 1,126 donors came together to raise over $145,000 for trails in just two days. With an additional $100,000 in matching gift funds from a generous group of WTA Board Members and donors, WTA is walking away with $246,456 to fund our work. We are so grateful to every person who gave to GiveBIG this year. By giving back to trails, donors ensure a bright future for public lands. THANK YOU!

Shooting stars: The Eta Aquarids meteor shower will hit peak activity tonight! Read up on the best ways to watch the shower before nightfall.

Approved legislation: The Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources passed Senator Joe Manchin's Outdoor Recreation Act of 2022 out of committee. The bill aims to improve management for climbing and mountain biking on public lands and invest in programs like the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership to help fund access to the outdoors.

Land management change: Earlier this month, 15 recreation sites near Spokane were moved under Washington State Parks management. Due to the change, a few additional trailheads near Riverside State Park will require a Discover Pass starting on July 1. Make sure you know which trailheads are impacted before you head out.
