Hiker Headlines: Sno-Park Status, WTA Advocacy, Icicle Road, MLK Day
Sno-parks are slow to reopen after last week’s snowstorm. The state legislative session just kicked off in Olympia. Icicle Road near Leavenworth will likely be closed through the weekend. And, entry fees will be waived at public lands on Monday, January 17 in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
It’s January 13. Sno-parks are slow to reopen after last week’s snowstorm, and Gold Creek Pond Snowshoe will be closed for an indeterminate amount of time. The state legislative session just kicked off in Olympia. Icicle Road near Leavenworth will likely be closed through the weekend. And, entry fees will be waived at public lands on Monday, January 17 in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Sno-park closures: Crews are working hard to clear sno-parks that have been temporarily closed after the heavy snowfall last week. Most sno-parks should be back open this weekend, but some may remain closed until it is safe to reopen them. The closure at Gold Creek Pond at Snoqualmie Pass will remain with no expected reopening date at this time due to hazardous conditions and accessibility issues.
Legislative session: WTA will be leading efforts to reduce the maintenance backlog and emphasize equity in the outdoors during this year’s state legislative session, which kicked off on January 10.
Icicle Road closure: Icicle Road near Leavenworth will likely remain closed through the weekend while crews work to remove snow. The road will reopen once it is safe to do so.
Entry to public lands free on MLK Day: In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, entry fees will be waived at the majority of public land including state recreation lands, national parks and national forests next Monday, January 18.
