Hiker Headlines: New Sno-Park, First Day Hikes, Bridge Over the Columbia
First Day Hikes are a great way to kick off the new year. A new Sno-Park just opened on the westside of Snoqualmie Pass. The eastern closure point for the North Cascades Highway will move a few miles down the road. And a pedestrian bridge across the Columbia River will open in 2022.

The eastern closure point for the North Cascades Highway will move a few miles down the road. And a pedestrian bridge across the Columbia River will open in 2022. Here’s some news you may have missed while out on trail this week.

First Day Hikes: Start the new year with First Day Hikes. Washington State Parks is hosting several events on January 1, and entry fees will be waived at all Washington recreation lands.
New Sno-Park along I-90: A new Sno-Park just opened along I-90. The Asahel Curtis Sno-Park is just off exit 47 on the west side of Snoqualmie Pass. If you’re headed there for some winter fun be sure to purchase a Sno-Park Pass in advance.
Highway 20 closure moved to Early Winters: The winter closure boundary on the North Cascades Highway will be moving from the Silver Star Gate to Early Winters on December 30. The new closure point is 7 miles east of the current closure.
New bridge across the Columbia: Expect a new bridge along the Palouse to Cascades Trail in the new year. The Beverly Bridge is scheduled to open in early 2022, providing an important link across the Columbia River for cyclists and hikers traveling along this iconic trail.
