Hiker Headlines: More Roads Close, Spooky Fun and Sno-Park Permits

It’s Oct. 17. More roads are closing for the season. This is a great weekend to enjoy some spooky outdoor fun. And it’s time to start thinking about snow.

Here’s what you might have missed while out on trail this week:

Closed for the season: A number of roads at Mount Rainier National Park are now closed for the season, including the road to Sunrise and to Mowich Lake. Several more roads are expected to close soon. If you’re heading out to hike, always a good idea to check road conditions first this time of year.

Haunted hikes: It’s the spookiest month of the year. If you’d like to get in the Halloween spirit, Washington State Parks have a number of upcoming events for all ages. Or perhaps you’d like to go for a hike and see if you can figure out what’s lurking in the shadows.

Sno-park permits, simplified: Sno-park permits go on sale Nov. 1. And this year, the whole process is simpler. If you’d like to use a sno-park for winter fun, you won’t also need to display a Discover Pass. And while the system is simpler this year, there is still some nuance and it’s worth reading up to see exactly what you need.
