While there is not yet a formalized trail system here, Mica Peak is a popular destination for hikers, bikers, and equestrians because of the great workout it affords. The elevation gain from the parking area to the high point of 5200 feet gives visitors of all backgrounds a nice workout, doable in a day or less from Spokane. Mica Peak could become a destination for horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. This project will pave the way toward attaining that vision.

The volunteer mapping event is an opportunity for hikers, equestrians, mountain bikers and community members to discover Mica Peak and map trails and site conditions as the first step in developing a recreational trail plan for the conservation area.

The plan will develop a cohesive vision for recreation on Mica Peak, identify and prioritize trail corridors, create uniform recreation management policies for the four major property owners that currently allow non-motorized recreation, identify public access points to the trail system, and develop trailhead design plans for at least one new trailhead parking area.
