Today, Governor Jay Inslee declared this coming Saturday, August 3 as Washington Trails Day. The inaugural Washington Trails Day is a day for Washington to get out and hike!

Today, Governor Jay Inslee proclaimed this coming Saturday, August 3 as Washington Trails Day, the day that Washington hikes.

A day for hikers and trails

We've been planning Washington Trails Day for some time now. We wanted the first Saturday in August to be a day for Washington to go hiking. It's a day for hikers all over the state to share their outdoor experiences through trip reports and social media, to take a friend on their first hike, to hike somewhere new and to take lots of great photos.

The delivery of a Governor's proclamation celebrating the first annual Washington Trails Day simply makes the day even more exciting!

Outdoor recreation important to Washington

Today, Governor Jay Inslee signed a proclamation recognizing the powerful economic benefit of outdoor recreation to Washington State and the value of WTA's efforts on behalf of hikers. Governor Inslee has always been a strong supporter of outdoor recreation and public lands, and we're very grateful for his acknowledgement of our work and the role of outdoor recreation in Washington State.

Thanks to Governor Inslee and his wonderful staff. And thanks to all of our volunteers, members and hikers statewide. You are the backbone of WTA!
