Get Away with WTA this Labor Day Weekend

Everyone loves three day weekends. Sometimes, that's the problem -- everyone gets that extra day and suddenly the solitude and quiet you were so looking forward to is nowhere to be found. How to escape the crowds? One way is to join us on a Backcountry Response Team volunteering trip in the beautiful, secluded, 14,000-acre Salmo-Priest Wilderness, the only wilderness in the northeast part of Washington.

Solitude in Salmo-Priest

Located in the Colville National Forest in the northeast corner of Washington, the Salmo-Priest wilderness is dominated by the Shedroof Divide and Crowell Ridge. The wilderness offers stunning vistas, including the Selkirk Range in Idaho and the Okanogans in Washington. If it's particularly clear, you may even get a glimpse of Canada. Home to a wide variety of wildlife, the area offers the possibility of seeing bears, bighorn sheep, moose, maybe even a wolf. There are also caribou here, the only place in the lower 48 that they reside.

A three-day backpacking volunteer trip

This will be a three-day, two-night backpacking trip with a group of big-hearted volunteers -- people who want to give back to trails and enjoy the peace and quiet of the wilderness.

We will be working the Shedroof Divide trail on the section between Thunder Creek Trail #526 and Shedroof Cutoff Trail #511. Projects will include reworking areas of bad tread, as well as drainage repair and brushing along this beautiful 6.5 mile section of the Shedroof Divide Trail.
