Four Trails That Need Your Help in May
This month WTA is working in several locations that need some special attention, and we'd love to have your help! Join us for a day full of safety, fun, and work, and make your mark on the trails you love. No experience is needed to join a work party, and anyone is welcome. We'll teach you what you need to know and find the right job for you. For more information on what to expect when you join us on trail, check out our FAQ page.

Eastern Washington - Liberty Lake Trails
May 9, 27
The trail through Liberty Lake Regional Park wends its 7.5-mile way along a lakeshore, near a babbling creek, and through intimate forest. Hikers visiting this diverse environment will benefit from major improvements with the help of WTA volunteers.
Once we've completed this project, hikers will be able to enjoy destinations along the trail including a beautiful waterfall and large cedar grove, but we can't do it without you! Come join us for a day and enjoy fresh air and trail work while you help us complete this project.

Puget Sound - White Chuck Bench
May 19-22, 26-29

Following the edge of the bench along the Whitechuck River, this trail offers peek-a-boo views of White Chuck and Pugh Mountains. Because it follows the river, hikers can enjoy almost no elevation gain, while reveling in solitude, forest views and the sounds of rushing water.
After a major flooding event, the White Chuck Bench trail was closed for years, but access was recently restored, and it is in serious need of attention. Join us as WTA works with the Forest Service to rebuild sections of trail that have been lost, damaged or overgrown. There will be plenty of new trail construction, clearing and treadwork done.

Eastern Washington - Mount Spokane
May 21, 28

An extensive network of multi-use trails crisscrosses Mount Spokane, offering day hikes that accommodate all interests and abilities year-round. Because of almost continual traffic, trails here need frequent maintenance.
May's project is on Mount Kit Carson. We'll start with general maintenance on the south side trails. As we proceed up the mountain, crews will have a chance to work near the historic CCC cabin and towards the summit, the project becomes a reroute. This promises to be a fun project and we hope to see you at one of these work parties.

Southwest Washington - Lewis River Trail Weekend
May 30-31

Join us on an overnight trip doing annual maintenance work on the Lewis River Trail. Depending on the scope of the work, the round trip hike could be one mile or up to six miles, so feel free to join us for Saturday, Sunday, or the whole weekend. If you're interested in volunteering both days, feel free to camp with us Saturday night and enjoy a potluck BBQ.
WTA will provide hamburgers, veggie burgers, condiments and soda pop. If you decide to stay, please bring along a side dish to share, in addition to your tent, sleeping bag and personal gear.
