Destination Darrington: Hike and Visit This Mountain Loop Hub

Posted by Andrea Imler at May 30, 2014 11:55 AM |

If you've been itching to get out on the gorgeous trails along the Mountain Loop Highway, now is the time to visit. A coalition of outdoor and recreation partners have made visiting the area around Darrington easy with a map guide to outdoor destinations and local businesses.

This weekend marks the Darrington Day Celebration, an annual day of fun and celebration in the town at the heart of the Mountain Loop Highway. The celebration kicks off the summer season of outdoor recreation in the area. The community is hoping to see lots of hikers and campers stop in for a visit in the coming days and weeks to help jump-start the community's recovery from the Highway 530 slide earlier this year.

What you need to know about getting to Darrington

Great news! The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT)  will be reopening a single lane of Highway 530 this weekend. Like the current bypass road in use now, Highway 530 will alternate between eastbound and westbound travel until a second lane is opened. Until the highway reopens this weekend, hikers are welcome to use the bypass road to visit Darrington. For details on the east- and westbound travel times, check out WSDOT's Highway 530 page or check status updates on Twitter @wsdot.
