If you’d like to begin 2023 with some time outside, Washington State Parks has made it easy. Across the state, more than 40 state parks have First Day Hike events planned on Jan. 1, 2023. The events include ranger-led hikes, snowshoe trips, bike rides and more. The events have a variety of difficulty levels, including flat ADA-accessible trails and more hilly trips. Some hikes will include talks about the history and natural features of the parks.
No Discover Pass is needed on Jan. 1 to park at state parks, but some events require advance registration or a sno-park permit. Snowshoe rentals will also be available at some parks.
