Boeing Grant Supports Trail Work

Great news for hikers in the Puget Sound region! Washington Trails Association has been awarded a $60,000 grant through The Boeing Company Charitable Trust to support our trail maintenance efforts in King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties through August 2010.

This grant will support the work of more than 1,000 volunteers to improve and maintain 60 of the region’s most popular and well-traveled trails, from the Puget Sound foothills to the Cascade Crest. Boeing funds will enable WTA to keep these trails open for hikers, reduce erosion caused by neglect and overuse, and help keep our Puget Sound watersheds healthy.

This will be the third consecutive year of The Boeing Company’s partnership with WTA. Boeing has also supported our multi-year effort to repair trails in Mount Rainier National Park affected by the 2006 flood in cooperation with the Student Conservation Association and the National Parks Conservation Association. So far this year, WTA has led more than 5,000 hours of volunteer labor on the Glacier Basin Trail.
