Hiking Wyeth

This trail weaving through old-growth Doug-firs offers hikers a nice day hike, or access to longer backpacking loops.

Beginning in the Wyeth Campground, this 7.3-mile trail enters the Mark O Hatfield Wilderness about one miles south of the campground and continues within the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area's boundaries for the first five miles before crossing the boundary into the Mt. Hood National Forest and connecting with a number of other trails.

To the east, Mount Defiance Trail skirts the edge of the wilderness boundary before heading back into the National Scenic Area and down to the trailhead which connects with the Mitchell Creek segment. To the west, it ends past North Lake, at the Mount Defiance South Trailhead.

The trail was heavily damaged by the Eagle Creek fire in 2017, but has been restored and reopened due to the hard work of the Trailkeepers of Oregon, Forest Service, Northwest Youth Corps and American Conservation Experience.
