Hiking Whittaker Wilderness Peak

A trail named for local mountaineer Jim Whittaker, this hike begins at the road and ascends to the summit of Cougar Mountain. Make this a loop by using the Gombu Wilderness Cliffs trail, named for Whittaker's climbing partner in his ascent of Everest, Nawang Gombu.

Getting There

From I-90, take Exit 15 and drive south on highway 900 for a little over 3 miles. Look for the trailhead sign and an asphalt driveway that goes uphill to the right.
