Hiking Upper Mad River Trail

The upper Mad River Trail begins at Maverick Saddle and ends at the junction of the Shetipo Trail and Garland Peak which allows for further adventures, as well as access to the Mad Lake and Blue Creek areas, including four lakes and many high elevation meadows.

Please note that the upper Mad River has a seasonal closure for stock, mountain bikes and motorcycles until posted. The closure is usually between October and early summer. Contact the Entiat Ranger Station for the latest conditions at 509 784-4700. The seasonal closure usually ends around mid-July, depending upon trail conditions. The area one-quarter mile on each side of the trail is closed to off trail travel by motorbikes and mountain bikes.
