Hiking Taneum Lake

This trail leaves from a forest service road in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest south of Cle Elum and reaches the lake in under a mile. The trail is simple and straightforward and stays nearly level the entire way. The lake is relatively small and tucked against the base of gentle slopes.

Along the way, hikers will pass through an old-growth forest. After enjoying the lake, head back to the trailhead on the same trail.

Getting There

From I-90 take exit 93, then turn left onto Elk Heights Road for about half a mile, then turn right onto Thorp Prairie Road for 3.5 miles. Turn right onto East Taneum Road, crossing over I-90, then take the first right onto West Taneum Road/Forest Road 33 and stay on this for another 8.7 miles until you arrive at a fork where you will stay straight to get on Forest Road 3330 for 8.5 miles. Stay straight as this turns into Forest Road 3120 for another 4.1 miles, then turn right onto Forest Road 3100 for 2.4 miles when you will arrive at the trailhead on the right.
