Hiking Sunrise Lake

The Sunrise Lake trail is part of the extensive Sawtooth Backcountry Trail system. It is a steep hike to a gorgeous blue mountain lake with seasonal wildflowers and fall colors.

One way to access Sunrise Lake is to start at the Foggy Dew Creek trail. The trail meets with the Sunrise Lake trail section after about 5.2 miles.

The final one mile section up to the lake is closed to ORVs. It involves a steep climb up to Merchant Basin, where hikers cross a creek and continue climbing through a basin, to a ridge, and along the base of a rock outcropping to quiet Sunrise Lake itself.
