Squilchuck State Park has a lot to offer its visitors. From hiking to mountain biking, from winter recreation to birdwatching — there’s much to do if you head over there.
The trails through the state park will take you through the forested hills, where you can take in the local flora and fauna. You might find berries, ferns and all sorts of large trees on a hike through the hills. In the right season, you’ll even be able to see wildflowers. Among the abundant variety of wildlife you could run into include birds of all kinds — eagles, grouse, hummingbirds, owls and more — and smaller land dwellers — chipmunks, deer, rabbits, among other critters.
During the wintertime, the park is covered in snow, with lots of open space to spread out. At this winter wonderland, you’ll probably see folks pulling out their cross-country skis or snowshoes to explore the area. You’re also likely to find families with their sleds and inner tubes having fun sliding down the hill.
There is a large group campsite available for reservation, as well as a day-use lodge in the park that can also be reserved.
If you’re looking for a nature getaway without the long drive and plenty of space to roam and ramble about, Squilchuck State Park might be just the place for you.
