Hiking Silver Star Mountain (Okanogan)

Silver Star mountain provides a rewarding hiking and climbing opportunity right off Highway 20. Its majestic barren rocky spires that rise out of the forested slopes seem beyond reach but in fact the summit block is attainable, though it requires a bit of exposed scrambling after a long hike and a glacier traverse.

The hike can be done in a day, but there are opportunities for camping at the "Bench", a flat spot around 6700 feet, or at the Burgundy col.

Minutes into the approach hike grand views open to Liberty Bell, Hinkhouse Peak, the Kangaroo Ridge and the hairpin turn on Highway 20.

Without proper glacier gear it's recommended to stop at the Burgundy col. The glacier traverse requires crampons and ice axe at a minimum, at least in late season when the glacier is harder to cross.
