Hiking Sierra Park

This innovative park in Edmonds is a delight for the senses of both blind and sighted visitors. The trail through the park was landscaped with trees and shrubs that provide a wide range of textures and fragrances as well as visual beauty.

Visitors are encouraged to feel the difference in leaves, needles, and bark, and to enjoy the scents of herbs and aromatic shrubs and trees. An alpine garden has even been fashioned from a rock outcrop. Picnic tables and wooden benches are located along the pathways so trail users can linger.

The trail and park is the happy result of a partnership between the City of Edmonds and the Edmonds Lions Club, which helped design and create the park, and continues to help maintain the park. Jim Brown, a blind landscape architect, designed the park.

Future plans call for lengthening the trail, developing herb and rose gardens, and adding a Braille map at the trailhead.
