Hiking Shy Bear

The Shy Bear runs through the southern portion of Cougar Mountain. The official ends of this trail can only be reached on foot and must be accessed from one of the various trails that connect to Shy Bear.

At its eastern end this trail connects to the Wilderness Peak Trail. From here head northwest for 0.4 mile before reaching another junction. Head left here and go for a little over half a mile through Shy Bear Marsh before reaching another junction. Stay straight for the last half mile of the Shy Bear Trail.

Where this trail ends you can head right for about a thousand feet to the Far Country Lookout. Enjoy this viewpoint then head back the way you can or choose one of the many trails on Cougar Mountain to loop back to your car.
