This trail ascends the south slopes of Mount Adams through dry lodgepole pine forest and crosses Shorthorn Creek and Crofton Creek before ending at the Round the Mountain Trail at treeline.
Along the way, the trail passes through brilliant blooms of Beargrass and phlox. Crofton Creek carves a deep ravine as it descends from the high glaciers on Mount Adams.

Getting There
From Vancouver, take I-205 across the Columbia to I-84. Head east on I-84 to Hood River. Take exit 64 and cross the Hood River Bridge back to the Washington side. Turn left on Hwy 14 and go 1.5 miles. Turn right onto Hwy 141 Alt. Continue north on to Hwy 141 and follow for about 20 more miles to Trout Lake. Follow the Mt. Adams Road (County Rd 17) north for 2 miles, turn left onto Forest Service Road 80. Follow FSR 80 for about 4 miles until it turns to gravel and becomes FSR 8040. Continue north for about 4 more miles to the Shorthorn Trailhead.
