Hiking Sherman Creek Wildlife Area

The Sherman Creek Wildlife Area lies just west of Kettle Falls across the Columbia River. A network of trails crisscross through the portion of the wildlife area that sits between Highway 20 and the Columbia River. These trails parallel the river with a few loops being formed in the process. Many paths intersect here including hiking trails, game trails and access roads. It can be a bit of a tangle, so consider taking a photo of the map at the trailhead to reference as you walk.

Two trailheads provide good parking (listed from north to south), the Headquarters Trailhead and Mellenberger Bridge Trailhead. Visitors can either hike the entire length of the wildlife area in an out-and-back trip from the Headquarters TH or form a variety of shorter loops. One popular hike here is the Sherman Point Loop, which starts from Mellenberger Bridge.

WTA Pro Tip: Look for whitetail deer, mule deer, bald eagles, turkeys, waterfowl and songbirds as you hike here.
