Hiking Shadow Lake Nature Preserve

SHADOW (Save Habitat And Diversity Of Wetlands) Lake Nature Preserve is a lovely, small park in Renton that is home to a 5,000 year old peat bog with a short, universally-accessible half-mile boardwalk trail that leads into the heart of the bog.

Open from dawn to dusk, daily, the boardwalk to SHADOW bog is and excellent, short outing for families with curious little ones. Those with a group up for a longer walk can explore the uplands, which boast three miles of hiking trails weaving through shaded forests — just please contact them beforehand for directions to the uplands trails and to let them know you plan on visiting.

SHADOW makes for a great neighborhood stop for those with small children and anyone interested in learning about rare & unique wetland habitat.
