Be prepared for a long, steep hike on pine needles when tackling Red Mountain. But your trek will pay off with a lunch spot in flower-strewn meadows and spectacular views of the surrounding peaks.
The official trail for this route is only one mile long, and it is a challenging scramble to reach the top of Painted Mountain beyond about 3100 feet of elevation.
If you choose to, you'll pass Ruby Lake and through lovely meadows to a huge massif of red rocks that make up the peak of Painted Mountain (aka Red Mountain).
