Hiking Quilomene Wildlife Area

You may also have company. The refuge is used by four-wheel drive vehicles, mountain bikers and horses, in addition to the hikers who also venture into the Quilomene Wildlife Refuge for walks and hikes. They may also encounter a wide variety of wildlife, including elk, bighorn sheep, mule deer and birds like hawks, eagles, and quail.

Be aware that as you hike you may encounter large herds of elk - the refuge is managed especially for the safety of a herd that lives in the area. Always be aware of your surroundings, plot your path before you go, and know how to manage encounters with wildlife.
