Hiking Port Angeles Waterfront Trail

This (mostly) paved path from the waterfront at Port Angeles offers and easy, family friendly trip with the potential to see plenty of wildlife.

Begin at the parking lot for Waterfront Park in Port Angeles. (The park area has a sandy beach and a viewing platform with lovely views.) The trail heads east, along the water. There are a few, short sections of gravel or dirt, but the past is almost entirely paved. The water is in view most of the way — it's fun to watch ships come and go. As you head east, you'll get farther from urban development. Watch for birds, including eagles, river otters and seals. You might even get lucky enough to see a whale.

This trail continues on for miles in any direction. You can turn around at any point you wish. At about 3.25 miles, the trail bends to the south, away from the water, and travels through a lush green area. At 4.25 miles, it connects with another trail head on Strait View Drive, just off Highway 101.
