Use the Pika Trail to make a 5 mile snowshoe or cross-country ski loop with 900 feet elevation gain from the Marble Mountain Sno-Park. From the Sno-Park, take Pine Marten Trail 244A east for one mile to June Lake Trail 216B. Ascend to June Lake, then take the Pika Trail west to Swift Trail 244 and descend 2 miles to the Sno-Park.
From June Lake, the scenic 0.6-mile Pika Trail climbs west across the jumbled, blocky basalt of the June Lake Lava Flow with great views of Mount St. Helens. This trail is easiest to traverse when the snow is deep enough to solidly cover the lava flow and bury the boulders. A few wooden posts mark the route across the lava flow. Look for a blue diamond where the trail enters the forest and continues to climb over a ridge to the forested junction with the Swift Trail.
The Pika Trail is best used as a winter trail since tread has not been built across the rough June Lake Lava Flow.
