Getting There
To get to the trailhead, travel east on Highway 2 from Monroe, WA. About 21 miles east of Monroe, turn right onto graveled Mount Index Road (FR 6020). Travel 0.3 miles on FR 6020, then branch right onto FR 6020-109. The trailhead parking is just ahead, signed for Lake Serene. FR 6020 and 6020-109 are both passable to most passenger vehicles. There are two outhouses in the parking area.
Consider visiting Lake Serene on a weekday. While there may appear to be ample parking, the lake's popularity, particularly on weekends, often results in more cars than the trailhead can accommodate. Please note the No Parking signs. If you must park on the side of the dirt road, pull well off the road so that traffic and emergency vehicles can pass and other hikers can exit the lot.
