Hiking Painter Creek

Painter Creek branches off of the Chiwaukum Creek trail, heads up a creek valley to a junction with the Badlands trail, then turns to follow Painter Creek to a 4-way junction with the Icicle Ridge trail. Passing through the junction at Icicle Ridge and staying on the Painter Creek trail will take you to Lake Ida.

The trail is not maintained between the junction with Badlands Trail and Icicle Ridge Trail, making it difficult to follow in many places.

Getting There

The Painter Creek trail is accessed from the Chiwaukum Creek Trail on Chiwaukum Creek Road.

From Everett head east on Highway 2 for 85 miles to Coles Corner. Continue east on US 2 for 4.8 miles, turning right on Chiwaukum Creek Road (the turnoff is 0.75 mile before Tumwater Campground between mileposts 89 and 90). From Leavenworth follow US 2 west for 10 miles to the turnoff.

Follow Chiwaukum Creek Road for 0.2 mile to the trailhead (elev. 1850 ft). Privy available.
