Beginning at Forest Road 9712 and ending at the Forest Boundary, the Old Ellensburg Trail comprises one third of the three trails used to make a popular loop around Mount Lillian.
From Road 9712, the trail crosses Naneum Creek and skirts the southwest edge of Haney Meadow. It then continues through a low saddle, and descends to Howard Creek. Here, those wishing to create the 7-mile Mount Lillian loop can turn left onto Howard Creek Trail (1372). Otherwise trail 1373 continues southeast, crossing Howard Creek, then climbs to its end at Grouse Springs and Grouse Springs Trail 1371.1
It is also possible to continue on Grouse Spring trail up to Road 9712, then turn and walk up the road to loop with Trail 1372 or walk all the way along the road back to your car. There is an intricate network of trails to be explored here -- bring a map and come back again and again!
