Hiking O. O. Denny Park

The O O Denny County Park has history, hiking and old-growth trees all within the city of Kirkland. This 46-acre park is a great place to find local flora and fauna without leaving the city. See wildlife wandering through the trees, swimming in the creek and flying high in the sky. The park was also once home to the now fallen “Slyvia” — the oldest cedar tree in King County.

There are a few trails in the park with some connecting to the nearby Big Finn Hill Park. For a loop hike of about 1.2 miles, take the Lower Loop trail for 0.6 miles then head back on the 0.7 mile-Upper Loop trail.

Getting There

From I-90: if you’re coming from the west of Lake Washington, take exit 10A to I-405 N toward Bothell/Everett. If you’re coming from the east of Lake Washington, take exit 10 to 1-405 N toward Everett.

Continue on I-405 for a little over 9 miles then take exit 20A on the right to get on NE 116th St. Stay on NE 116th St for approximately a mile and a half. At the intersection, head to the right on NE Junaita Drive. After about 2 miles, turn left at the sign for Denny Park and head onto76th Pl NE. After about half a mile, 76th Pl NE becomes Holmes Point Dr NE. In a little under a mile, the park will be on your left and the parking lot will be on the right.
