Hiking Nine Mile Falls

Nine Mile Falls is unlikely to warrant a visit by itself. The trail is short and the drive is long from the nearest town. It is however a perfect leg stretcher if you are out exploring the remote forests of Central Washington.

The trail starts off running level along the top of a small ridge line. Impressively moist for it’s east-of-the-crest location, the ground is thick with mosses and diverse flora. Take some time to enjoy the quiet nature of this lonesome trail. The trail is duffy underfoot and the trees just thick enough to provide good shade. After a short one-eighth of a mile the trail turns steeply downhill.

The waterfall crashes in the recesses of a small gorge mostly hidden by overgrown brush. This turnaround will be perfect for the small legs in your group. An even steeper, user trail drops into the gorge wrapping around to the base and better views. The return quarter mile to your car will leave you wishing for more.

Getting There

Head east on State Route 20 from the center of Republic, WA. At just over 7 miles turn right on FS road 99. Stay left at 10+ miles (this turns to Black Floor Cabin Road a.k.a. FS 2053). At approximately 15.5 miles reach a T junction with FS 2053 turning right and FS 2054 turning left. Turn left and park immediately. The trail sign can be very difficult to spot so don’t leave the intersection!
