Located on the White River near Mount Rainier, the Mud Mountain Dam is both a flood control dam operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and a recreation facility.
Start at the Mud Mountain Dam trailhead and head out on the Rim Trail. In about 2 miles, you will reach the River Trail. This trail will take you through the forest to open mudflats on the banks of the White River. Along the way, find lovely views and look for local wildlife. In the spring, look for wildflowers like trillium, slamonberry, bleedingheart and more. At about 3.5 miles from the trailhead, Scatter Creek makes the trail impassable.
Mud Mountain Dam has specific open hours that vary slightly through the seasons. Please check their website for more information.
