This state park is just across the Washington state line in Idaho, just a little south of Tensed/De Smet and west of Highway 95. Virgil McCroskey not only donated the land for this park in Idaho, he also donated Steptoe Butte State Park to the Washington State Park system.
McCroskey State Park is dedicated to the memory of Virgil's mother. The park trails are open to ATVs, so you may have company if you visit on a summer weekend, but ski touring on the Skyline Road during the winter is a great option, and there are a few dispersed campsites (plus a vault toilet and campsites near Iron Mountain).
