Hiking Mad Lake

This pleasant trail is shared by hikers, backpackers, mountain bikes and dirt bikes. All visitors will ultimately reach Mad Lake and its pretty surrounding meadows.

There are two ways to get to Mad Lake. You can take the Upper Mad River Trail from Pine Flats Campground near Entiat to Maverick Saddle. On this route, there are trail connections to Lost Lake, Whistling Pig Meadow, and other destinations in the area.

You can also access the area using the Lower Mad River trail.

Getting There

From Leavenworth, drive north on Chumstick Highway for 14 miles to the community of Plain. Turn right on Chiwawa Loop Road and travel about 4 miles to Thousand Trails Campground.

Turn right on Forest Service Road 6100. Travel about 2 miles to Deep Creek Campground. Turn right on Forest Service Rd #6101 and travel about 5 miles to trailhead at Maverick Saddle.
