Hiking Lookout Mountain Lookout - Methow

This scenic hike can be done in under two hours, and along the way you'll enjoy panoramic views, lush forest, wildflowers, and a historic lookout tower that ups the coolness factor.

From the trailhead at road's end, begin climbing moderately the signature Ponderosa and Douglas-fir forests of Northeastern Washington, featuring pine grasses and lovely purple lupine along the trail. In full summer, a wide variety of wildflowers spring up all along the trail. Desert parsley, larkspur, penstemon, paintbrush, balsamroot, and lots more. How many can you name?

The moderate climb steepens, traversing the hillside. Gradually, views to the east open up. The huge, rolling mountains command your attention as you look out over the Methow, and further out, the Okanogan Valley. To the west rises Hoodoo Peak above the Twisp River and its drainage.

At the top, you're rewarded by not only 360-degree views, but the striking lookout tower, rising a further 60 feet in the air.
