Hiking Little Salmon La Sac

An unmaintained trail connecting to the Sasse Ridge Trail (#1340), following a burn zone from the Jolly Creek Mountain Fire (2017). The route itself is very hard to follow as it goes through a burn zone caused by the Jolly Creek Fire of 2017.

A high clearance vehicle is required to access the trailhead due to various road maintenance issues: the road has a number of dips, is steep, is single-lane, and is partly washed out by the NF-128 trailhead.

WTA Pro Tip: Save a copy of our directions before you leave! App-based driving directions aren't always accurate and data connections may be unreliable as you drive to the trailhead.

Getting There

From Cle Elum, travel northeast on Highway 903 / Salmon la Sac Road for 16.5 miles. Pass the Red Mountain Campground, on your right and then turn right and continue on to NF-128 (unmarked). Turn right, left, then right again, to continue following NF-128 to the trailhead. Park somewhere that allows other vehicles to pass/turn around.

A high clearance vehicle will be necessary to get to the trailhead.
